I watch you
As you sip your coffee
Deep in thought
I want to ask
‘What are you thinking?’
But I know your answer,
‘Nothing’ you will say.
Yet, there must be something
Some idea, some worry
Some train of thought
That I am not allowed on.
‘My mind is blank’
You always say.
But, that can’t be possible
One’s mind cannot be blank
Mine is always in chaos
So many thoughts running around
Never still, never idle.
‘How can it blank?’
I will ask again
‘There must be something’
I will insist, ‘Tell me’.
‘It is blank’
You will say
And go back to your sipping
Your eyes focused,
Elsewhere
Your mind,
Not-blank.
