This poem was written as part of a writing challenge based on a prompt.
They gather in black
In plenty
Your burial, soon.
I stand besides a wooden box
Where you lie
Expressionless,
Void of emotions,
Stiff, just like me
But I breathe
And you refuse to.
You have left me alone
On this planet with its evils
How dare you?
They murmur condolences
That I fail to grasp
I clutch your bracelet
Silver and sleek
It will be vaulted
Like everything else I have of you
And kept
Safe and sound.
But what about you?
Perfectly captures the turmoil of emotions after a bereavement.
